മുഹമ്മ ബോട്ട് ജെട്ടിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.5 കിലോമീറ്ററും ആലപ്പുഴയിൽ നിന്ന് 13 കിലോമീറ്ററും ദൂരമുണ്ട്. നൂറുകണക്കിന് അപൂർവ ദേശാടന പക്ഷികളുടെ സുരക്ഷിത താവളമാണ് കായലിലെ ഈ ചെറിയ ദ്വീപ്. ആലപ്പുഴയിൽ നിന്ന് 1.5 മണിക്കൂർ മോട്ടോർ ബോട്ട് സവാരി അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 30 മിനിറ്റ് സ്പീഡ് ബോട്ട് യാത്ര നിങ്ങളെ ഇവിടെ എത്തിക്കും.
ആലപ്പുഴ മുതൽ കൊച്ചി വരെയും കായംകുളം കായലിലേക്കും വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന വേമ്പനാട് കായലിനാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട പാതിരാമണലിലേക്ക് ബോട്ടിൽ മാത്രമേ എത്തിച്ചേരാനാകൂ. ഹൗസ്‌ബോട്ട് സവാരിക്ക് നടുവിലുള്ള പിറ്റ് സ്റ്റോപ്പാണിത്. പാതിരാമണൽ എന്ന പേരിന്റെ അർത്ഥം 'രാത്രിയുടെ മണൽ' എന്നാണ്. ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് 91 പ്രാദേശിക പക്ഷികളും 50 ദേശാടന പക്ഷികളും ഉണ്ടെന്നാണ് കണക്കുകൾ പറയുന്നത്.
