Roots
The underground parts of plants are called Roots. The three main function of roots anchor the plant in the soil, absorb water and minerals, the root is the part of the plants transport system: xylem carries water and minerals from the roots to the stem and leaves, and Phloem carries nutrients from the leaves to all parts of the root system.Roots have an outer epidermis covering a cortex of parenchyma(packing tissue), and a center cylinder of vascular tissue. This arrangement helps the roots resist the forces of compression as they grow through the soil.
